New Beginnings
The last quarter of 2016 and the beginning of 2017 have been the beginning of a new adventure.
I was very dissatisfied with my last place of employment and was growing very discontent with what path my life was going in.
The final straw for me was being told I was a good technician but I needed to stop doing my job and become more social with the people I was working for
I knew that was code language for I needed to kiss more ass and do less work for the people that didn’t make decisions
I had already been on several job interviews and nothing seemed to be coming to fruition
I made a plan with my mother for me to return back to Philadelphia at the end of my job assignment in June of 2017
Hours after formulating that plan I was offered a job at the one place I really wanted to work, because of the potential for growth and learning in my field
In November I transitioned from working for a government institution that notoriously underpays and over works its staff for a small business with a lot of potential
In December I finished the last requirements I needed to obtain my Bachelors of Science degree in Information Technology with a concentration in Networking, Administration, and Security.
I was the first person in my family to earn a college degree of any kind
With all the studying I was doing I didn’t focus much on me as a whole person
I gained approximately 10 pounds in 2 months and for someone under 5’ that is a lot
When I noticed, my clothes beginning to get tight, I knew I needed to make changes
I began going to the gym located in my apartment complex, daily
I like to think of myself as the jack of all trades and master of none
I was once certified by two different institutions as a personal trainer and by one as a nutrition specialist
I know what to do it’s just a matter of applying the knowledge I have
In the short amount of time that I have devoted to going to the gym, even when I don’t feel like it
I have taken slight joy in small victories I have made
I have been to the gym consistently for 6 days, I am working towards 30 days in a row to create a habit
The amount of time I spend in the gym has been the same and the cardio I do is the same but my legs don’t fill up with lactic acid, that burning sensation, nearly as fast as the first days
The number of miles I get done has increased and I don’t check to see how much time I have left quite as soon as I used to
I have to constantly remind myself that consistency is the key to obtain my goals and I need to focus on all parts of me to be the best me
I have a tendency to focus on my mental growth and neglect my physical health that has to change and I am on the path to that new beginning.
